Rabbi Peter Tarlow has been the Rabbi and Director of Texas A&M Hillel for 25 years. He has a PhD in sociology, and is an expert in tourism and counter-terrorism. Rabbi Tarlow does private consulting all around the world, from the police force of Aruba to the winter Olympics in British Colombia . Rabbi Tarlow also teaches at Texas A&M University and the University of Hawaii.

Rabbi Tarlow is married to Sara Alpern, a History professor at Texas A&M. He has two biological children, Nathan and Lyse, and over 200 adopted children – he views every student that comes through Texas A&M Hillel as his own. He encourages students to call him whenever they need to chat, feel lonely, have an ethical, spiritual, or religious problem, or just need to reach out, and is known affectionately as just “Rabbi”. Students are always welcome not only at the Hillel building but at Rabbi and Sara’s home for Shabbat dinners and student board sleep-overs.

Rabbi Tarlow has taken groups of Hillel students all over the world combining education, adventure, and Jewish culture. To the right he is standing in Peru in front of our Hillel group in 2009 as our “Machu Picchu Rabbi”.
